1. How the phases of the moon occur?
I think the phases of the moon occur based on the Earth's placement each day. As the Earth orbits around the sun it's a different position from the moon. That's why we see different phases of the moon.
2. What causes the seasons?
The seasons are caused by the Earth's placement around the sun. If the Northern hemisphere is closer to the sun, that causes the warmer seasons like summer. When the hemisphere is farther away from the sun that causes colder seasons like winter.
3. What causes a lunar eclipse?
I don't know what causes the lunar eclipse.
Lab:
This week in lecture, we focused on globes. We learned about the positioning of the earth, moon, and sun. Our seasons are caused based on the Earth's positioning around the sun. When the earth is tilted towards the sun, the countries/area on the tilt are getting stronger rays from the sun. The equator always gets a direct ray from the sun. The seasons change as the earth orbits around the sun. It doesn't matter which position the sun is spinning throughout the day but it matters what it's position from the sun is. We also learned that he north star is only for the northern hemisphere. The southern hemisphere has the southern cross which is their version of the north star.
Lecture:
In lecture this week, one thing that stood out was the importance of working off of student's knowledge. You can't continue to build a lesson if they lack the understanding the foundational parts. If more than half of the class understood a topic, you could adjust to work with the small group that didn't understand. But, if more than half of the class didn't understand the topics on a pre assessment, you might add some extra instruction into lessons. Also in lecture, I learned the correct diagram for the Sun and Earth. Often textbooks make a 3D imagine two dimensional and the difference makes students confused. Seeing everything acted out in lecture made it easier to understand.
Pressbook:
The difference between heliocentrism and geocentrism is important to know in a classroom setting. It helps to know both so you can understand the Sun, Earth, and Moon from a student's perspective. If your student is viewing the lesson from a geocentric viewpoint, having this understanding allows you to direct the lesson accordingly based on their thinking. Through the reading, I learned that lunar and solar eclipses happen every time there is a new moon and full moon. I thought that all eclipses were very rare. I remember the eclipse from last spring because everyone was talking about it for weeks. It surprised me to learn that lunar and solar eclipses happen throughout each moon phase cycle.
